Josue, from Iquitos, Perú, started working in missions at 17 years old, traveling to river villages with his father, a local pastor. Upon completing YWAM’s Discipleship Training School (DTS) in Cartagena, Colombia in 2003, Josue worked for 3 ½ years with YWAM in Leticia, Colombia, teaching children in river villages, doing maintenance and accounting for the base, and helping with evangelistic events, especially in the logistics and children’s events. He returned to Iquitos to study accounting and graduated in 2007. He worked for a river ministry as an accountant and logistics coordinator for 6 years before God called him to open Seeds of Love Children’s Ministry.

Rachel, from Kentucky, began missions at age 12, teaching children’s clubs with Child Evangelism Fellowship and working with at-risk youth alongside her father. After graduating from college with a degree in education, she completed YWAM’s DTS in Leticia, Colombia in 2005 (where she met Josue). She then worked with YWAM Iquitos for a year. She received a master’s degree in English as a second language in the States. Then she returned to Iquitos, where she felt God’s call to teach the Bible Club at Seeds of Love ministry–at that time (2007) there were 10 kids.

Josue and Rachel were married in 2009. They have two daughters. They are the directors of Seeds of Love Ministry which has expanded to 80+ children, who come from the poorest of families in the slums of Iquitos, and need spiritual guidance. Most parents have made bad choices or deal with addictions. The kids find safety and love at the ministry.

Some of what Seeds of Love does is: teach Bible lessons, organize activities, have a leadership school and youth group, visit families, train parents in their skills in a monthly “School for Parents,” teach English, and give out basic school supplies and other necessities on a regular basis. They occasionally travel to villages along the river to share the Good News to the children. Once a year, they lead VBS and camps for elementary kids and middle and high school kids. They also host mission trips.

The couple bought property in May 2009, two blocks from the slums, where they built a ministry base for Seeds of Love ministry. A partnering church meets in the base as well. Seeds of Love reaches out to the community through gifts of food, dramas and evangelism, and city-wide Christian events. In 2014, Josue and Rachel bought a second property. They built a large chapel, where their second children’s ministry Arrows of Love meets, as well as a church they planted.

Their small staff include a few family members. They are seeking God as the youth are in leadership training, to increase the number of staff and to send out strong Christian leaders into the world. Two youth who have been in Seeds of Love since the beginning completed DTS with YWAM in 2016 and are now leaders. Josue and Rachel believe that, despite the hardships and struggles, God has called them to a life-time of serving Him in the Amazon.
