Club: Forgiveness   Leave a comment

As we were lower in numbers (it always happens right after Christmas) and the teachers were tired, I taught all the kids today. The lesson was on forgiveness; from Jesus´ Parable of the Unforgiving Servant (Matthew 18).

Christmas Day   1 comment

Josue and I enjoyed opening gifts. I gave him a soccer ball and he gave me kitchen handtowels and flowers. We received gifts from my mom and stepmom as well, which made it all the more special–nice to be remembered! Joela gave me a gift–she didn´t kick all day and I had no contractions. Thanks!! So Josue and I actually got to go out for lunch and a movie. Sweet!

Family Christmas Dinner   Leave a comment

As is tradition in Peru, we ate turkey dinner at midnight to welcome in Christmas day (like we do for New Years in the States). Then we exchanged presents–we had drawn a name; I was Shirley´s secret friend and Daniel was mine (love my plant!).

Note: In the second picture, you will see a boy in a blue and white striped shirt. He is Alberto, 13 years old, from a village 3 days away. His parents are very poor, so they sent him alone to Iquitos to find work. He found a place to stay…next door to us. He cannot afford to go to school. He has become part of our family in a short time.

Christmas Program   Leave a comment

December 21, about 150 kids and parents attended our annual Christmas program. Every single regular Club child came–70, who received a nice gift. 40 more kids came and received a small bag of candy. I gave a short lesson “What will you give to Jesus on His birthday?” (The kids answered, “He doesn´t need a bike or shoes–He wants our hearts: time, church attendance, obedience.”) We sang “Happy Birthday” to Him. The elementary class presented 2 Christmas choreographies that Isabel had taught them, and Irene and 3 youth presented another choreography. Irene led the kids in some songs, and Mama Luz was the MC throughout the program. She presented Karen, Anderson M, and Dorian special gifts for not missing one Club meeting all year long. She had a drawing for the parents for some gifts (fruit cake and soda pop). Lastly, we handed out chicken sandwiches, hot chocolate, and individually-wrapped fruit cake to everyone. They were happy and really seemed to enjoy the evening.

Christmas presents for Sponsored Children   Leave a comment

We took several children shopping with money sent from their sponsors (some kids shared the donations with siblings). They were all very happy and grateful.

Club: Angels we have heard on high   Leave a comment

I taught all the Club kids together. It was a Christmas lesson, on angels announcing the good news and how we too can share the good news of the Jesus´ love with others. One thing I thought about as I was preparing the lesson was Mary´s trip to Bethlehem in her last month of pregnancy and giving birth in a barn. How did she do it—and without complaining? Guess that´s why God picked her and not me!

The craft was angel ornaments; the kids were creative and each angel was unique!

Three kids received Christmas packages from their supporters. And as a few supporters have let me “share the wealth” I was able to give to two kids who hadn´t received anything this year.

The 2 pictures of the girls wearing the clothes are what was given to them last Sunday from JoAnn, a generous supporter. Aren´t they adorable?!

Last week, we took several kids shopping, thanks to their sponsors (who gave donations from $5 to $50). They are very happy and wish all of the sponsors a Feliz Navidad!
